What is Tamoxifen?
Nolvadex (Tamoxifen citrate) is a nonsteroidal antiestrogen used to treat breast cancer that has spread to other parts of the body (metastatic breast cancer), to treat breast cancer in certain patients after surgery and radiation therapy, and to reduce the chances of breast cancer in high-risk patients.
Tamoxifen blocks the actions of estrogen, a female hormone. Certain types of breast cancer require estrogen to grow. Tamoxifen Citrate can be an excellent performance enhancing tool for the female athlete as it has the ability to increase testosterone production as well as bind estrogen. Many female athletes will opt for this testosterone boosting effect instead of anabolic steroids due to the possibility of virilization that many of them can bring about.
Tamoxifen Application
Tamoxifen is used to treat some types of breast cancer in men and women. It is also used to lower a woman's chance of developing breast cancer if she has a high risk (such as a family history of breast cancer). Tamoxifen may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Tamoxifen Effects
Nolvadex is specifically a non-steroidal SERM belonging to the triphenylethylene family of compounds that exhibits both Estrogen agonist and Estrogen antagonistic effects on the body. This means that although Nolvadex might block the effect of Estrogen at the cellular level in certain tissues, it can enhance Estrogenic effects in other areas of the body.
Nolvadex (Tamox) possesses other very desirable effect, such as its ability to increase circulating levels of endogenous gonadotropins Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH), and through this, increasing the endogenous production of Testosterone.
